It's back to school time. Teachers today understand they aren't just drilling facts into tableau rosas; they are giving students the tools to be effective in the real world. That means an understanding of the importance of working well in teams.
As we all learned from Welcome Back Kotter, the more diverse the team, the more resources the collective has to put into a project and the more likely a lesson will be learned by the end of the half-hour show.
The same is true in writing teams. A diverse group of talented people coming together to share their unique experiences helps everyone grow - and have fun doing it.
Each episode featured a different member of the cast working through a challenge, with supporting cast members giving advice, a shoulder to cry on and praise for a job well done. Similarly, in a MasterMind Group, members take turns sharing their progress, celebrating fellow member accomplishments and everyone learns from the experience.
If you haven't formed your group yet, now is the time to set up a regular meeting schedule. Writer's Secret: MasterMind Your Way to Publishing Success has an entire chapter devoted to creative ways to launch a productive group.
If you already have a group, approach meetings with a team attitude and you may find that you have more answers that you previously thought.
Can I get a Ooh, ooh, Mr. Kotter?
Yours in Writing,
