One of the primary goals of a MasterMind Writing Group - along with nudging and brainstorming - is to celebrate collective publishing successes. I am a member of a number of groups and applaud each step members take on their journey toward authorhood. It gives everyone else in the group hope that they can reach similar goals and insight into what works and what doesn't.
I would like to share a couple of success stories with you here so you can think about how to do similar things in your groups.
A relatively new member of one of my groups is Dena, a talented and prolific writer entering a new phase in her career. After years of writing about real estate, she wants to make her work more meaningful. Her next project is entitled A Smart Woman's Guide to Romance in Midlife and it is a labor of love. To create some buzz and start establishing her platform, Dena is holding the first of a series of workshops for unattached midlife ladies aged 40-65 who are ready to embark on finding love again - or even for the first time. If you are in the Roseville, Calif. area Saturday, May 23, join her for Heartfelt Transitions*. You will be educated, inspired and have a lot of fun. In addition to talking about how to use online dating resources effectively, Dena has brought together a team to explore the world of makeup, fitness and wardrobe for confidence. Again, I want to stress, this is a book that hasn't been written yet, but she is taking the time to connect with her potential readers on a very intimate level. You go Dena.
Another member, Michelle, has had immense success promoting her book, Second Bloom: 10 Steps to Change Your Life. This action-oriented look at how to overcome inertia and reach your professional and personal goals stemmed from her personal journey. She has thrown herself into bringing the message to a wider audience. She has given workshops, appeared on local television stations, will be at Professional Business Women of California in May and rumor has it Oprah's people are looking at the book. This success did not happen by accident. Michelle had a plan from the beginning and with the help of her support network she is working every day to realize her dreams.
What can you do to bring your message to the people who need to hear it, even if you haven't finished your book yet? What can your MasterMind Group do to help you reach a wider audience? Please support these inspirational authors and share your successes with your group in person and here. We are rooting for you.
*Heartfelt Transitions will take place on Saturday, May 23rd at Jericho Coffee in Granite Bay, located at 8711 Sierra College Blvd. Admission is $39.99 and tickets will be sold at the door.
