Recipe for a Productive Writing Session

What is the secret for making sure your time at the keyboard results in the maximum amount of savory prose, juicy details and wordy wisdom? Two things - coffee and deadlines.

When it comes to the second item, I am forever grateful to my editors who keep my on track for weekly production. This blog also helps keep me typing regularly. Discipline was one of the subjects that came up in the weekly Twitter #writechat on Sunday (while I was taking a coffee break from other deadlines) and we all agreed that the structure of a blog was a positive influence on our overall writing. Jessica Rosenberg @kikarose said, "Blogging has made me really work at writing regularly" and Carla Lucchetta @herkind said "Blogging is great for discipline."

For more personal projects I look to my MasterMind Group to keep me on the straight and punctuated. That is why I am so excited that the group is coming to my house on Wednesday for some good old-fashioned nudging, brainstorming and celebrating. Yes, I have to make time to clean and cook, but the ROI will be incentive to finish my proposal so I can sit up straight in my chair and say that I have made genuine progress.

This sort of "at the Pearly Gates" accountability can be done in person or online, but is always more effective with coffee or chocolate or both.

What motivates you?

Yours in writing,
Promptmasters
Jennifer Sander and JT Long
